A Chatty Map for The National Gallery
Where did all the maps go?
During the pandemic The National Gallery removed all paper maps, leaving gallery goers lost in their maze of curated space. The brief asked us to replace their old wayfinding assets with a device aiding navigation in a more human way than a simple floor plan.
Built on conversation, ‘A Chatty Map’ works by following a designated route outlined by discourse overheard in the gallery. Working with my confidence in editorial design, the publication is multifunctional and includes writings about the artwork and and its space. The double fold, inspired by magazine RealReview, reflects the disregarded paper map folded into a back pocket.

A Chatty Map was a research driven project initiated by photographing and documenting current ineffective wayfinding and lost gallery goers in The National Gallery.
